week roundup #4
Time Started: 1:48 PM
Mood: Caffeinated
Weather: Pleasantly chilly
Well, readers, I am delighted to announce that the oppressive mediocrity of my life has finally taken a backseat. This week, I have real, actual news to share with the four of you who read my blog. (Your readership is, of course, dearly appreciated.)
To get the boring news out of the way before we begin: Over the week, I finished training for my new job. In a strange and somewhat humorous turn, I am not legally allowed to be a server, as I am still (in the eyes of the law) a minor. Since I do not turn eighteen until next year, they have decided to make me a busser, with the intent of letting me become a server once I get old enough.
I am content with this, as the work is easy and my coworkers are fine enough. I am not happy about getting paid less than I would have been if I was serving, but as long as the money is consistent I have few complaints.
For interesting news: I went to my very first concert over the weekend! I went to go see They Might Be Giants (one of my all-time favorite bands) on their 2025 tour. It was a Nashville show.
Although I am from the American south, I live nowhere near Nashville or any of its suburbs; the only reason I ever go there is to visit family who live in the area. And, as it just so happened, one of those family members had a birthday on the same night of the show I would be free to go to. The perfect excuse to be near the venue!
The result was that after a not-insignificant amount of asking, schedule-arranging, and sheer luck, me and my father packed ourselves into our car and drove a very (VERY) long time to see the concert.
It was an excellent show. I was unprepared for how loud it would be, but at least now I know to bring earplugs the next time I go to a concert (which I highly recommend anyone reading this do). The backing instrumentalists were all incredible, and hearing so many of the songs I grew up listening to preformed live right in front of me was something I will look back on fondly for years to come.

All in all I had a very good week. I will definitely look into seeing TMBG again at a later date if possible. I slightly regret not getting a shirt at the merch stand, but at least I can be proud of my financial responsibility.
For the album recommendation this week, I will stick to the theme and recommend you listen to Lincoln by TMBG. Their best album, in my opinion, with all of the quirkiness and strange darkness that makes this band so good. Listen to it here (youtube) and here (spotify).
As always, if you like my blog or my music choice, let me know on my guestbook. I greatly enjoy getting messages there.
Back next week,
- Lucas M. ⧖
